Borosilicate glass reactor - Vessel with total volume from 250 mL to 20 L
Glass autoclavable bioreactors: The world wide standard
- Wide range of volumes to fit many applications: 2, 3, 5, 7, 15 and 20 liter total volume
- Interchangeable modules to tailor the systems to research demands
- Easy cleanability by electropolished finish of product
- Simple set-up and easy handling
The stirred tank reactor (STR) is the most widely used bioreactor type. Applikon glass autoclavable bioreactors are suitable for cell culture and microbial culture applications. The systems are built according to the specific demands of a process using an extensive selection of high quality components.
Because of the modularity and flexibility of these components, the user can always adapt the systems to fit new requirements. This results in low initial investment and low running costs.
Applications: Microbial cultures, Cell cultures, Batch, Fed-Batch, Perfusion and Continuous cultivation

Single use reactors - Reactor vessel with total volume from 500 mL to 3 L
AppliFlex ST: Single-use bioreactors for lab-scale
- Integrates with software automation and automated sampling tools
- Interchangeable with multi-use systems
- Removable headplate
- Shelf life 2 years
- Up to 0.5 barg
- Pre-sterilized and ready-to-go
The AppliFlex ST is a fully customizable stirred tank single-use bioreactor that uses 3D printing technology to create any head plate configuration that is optimal for your process. With this single-use system there is no risk of cross contamination between runs.
The pre-sterilized, ready-to-use bioreactor makes your life in the lab a lot easier. No more assembling and sterilization before you can start your culture. No more cleaning after the culture is finished. Save time and costs, execute more runs, and reduce your time-to-market.
Applications: Microbial and Cell culture, Regenerative medicines & Stem cell cultures, Batch, Fed-Batch, Perfusion and Continuous cultivation, Screening studies, Media optimization, Process optimization

Pilot steel - Total volume from 15 L to 270 L
Benchtop and pilot plant: Steam-in-place bioreactor systems
- Easy to clean mirror polished external finish
- Electropolished finish of all parts in contact with the culture (Ra < 0.4 μm) to allow efficient Clean-in-place
- Modular design allows easy adaptation to changing process demands
- Magnetically coupled agitator for peace of mind
- cGMP compliant design simplifies validation
- Compact design reduces floor space needed
- Open frame construction gives easy access for maintenance and operation
Applikon’s concept of module-based design is a key feature of its stainless steel pilot plant bioreactors. Built to the latest standards on hygienic processing and cGMP and GAMP validation requirements, scale-up from laboratory scale to pilot plant and small scale production is simplified by the consistent bioreactor design and the scalable control solutions. All systems are designed to be cleaned-in-place. Applikon offers CIP systems ranging from full manual control to fully automated systems.
Applications: Scale-up studies, Medium optimization, Process optimization, Small scale production, Microbial and Cell culture, Batch, Fed-Batch, Perfusion and Continuous cultivation

Production steel
With over 30 years of experience, Applikon can design any system to suit your needs - from specialised mini bioreactors to a complete line of cGMP production systems with several thousand liters of capacity.
Their state-of-the art facilities are capable of manufacturing any bioreactor system, no matter how complex. ISO 9001 certification underlines the high quality level of the work and accompanying documentation.

Control systems
Applikon bioprocess controllers combine reliable and accurate control of all parameters with user friendly solutions and easy operation. The controller is normally configured for cell culture or microbiological culture (yeast and bacteria), and controls all bioprocess parameters: pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, agitation, antifoam and liquid level. The controllers have connections for digital and analogue sensors and systems, for example balances or external sensors with a 4-20 mA signal may be used. An extended I/O module can be included for increased flexibility.
Depending on the system, it can be operated locally on the instrument, through web browser on computer or tablet, or with dedicated software. For industrial applications we provide software compatible with Emerson DetaV, Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC.

Software
Applikon provides software from basic data logging and storage up to complete, automated control systems for industry:
- Lucullus is a cost-efficient and scalable software package that can be used for most applications. The basic version, which is included with all Applikon systems, allows logging, storage and export of data. More advanced versions can be used for automating the process control, data analysis, report generation, and management of media production and reactor allocation. All data is stored in an Oracle database.
- V-Control is DeltaV-based, suitable for those already using this platform or desiring to do so. It provides full process control, automation, and data management from discovery to production. Using DeltaV in both process development and manufacture enables fast and problem free scale-up, with reduced time requirements and cost as a result.

Sensors and bioprocess analysis
Reliable sensors are required for full control of a bioreactor system. Applikon provides a range of options:
- AppliSens sensors - for pH, dissolved oxygen and RedOx potential
- Temperature sensor - Pt100
- Biomass sensor - for continuous monitoring
- Off-gas analysis - Cartridge-based system for analysing gas levels in reactor exhaust: Oxygen, carbon dioxide, methane, hydrogen and ethanol.

Complete systems ready-to-use - Biobundle
To make the process of getting started with your fermenter as easy as possible, Applikon provides many of its systems as a complete bundle solution – the Biobundle. A Biobundle is configured by you in cooperation with a product specialist, based on what the system is intended to be used for. From this a default configuration is selected, to which additional options and functionality can be added as desired. A Biobundle is supplied complete with software, spare parts, and enough consumables to assemble and get started ‘right out of the box’.

Training
Depending on your level of experience, we offer appropriate user training:
- Guidance and application support for those already experienced with Applikon systems
- Introduction to Applikon equipment for those already experienced with bioreactors, but unfamiliar with Applikon systems
- Full training covering both equipment and process, for those with no previous bioreactor experience
The training can be conducted at your location, at the Applikon training centre in the Netherlands, or online.
